Reusing Maternity WearJune 26, 2018

Hello to all the moms out there. Over the last few weeks we saw different ways of hiding that post delivery/postpartum tummy. Saree blouses, long shirts, patialas, everything. For a few weeks post-delivery, your maternity clothes will come in handy, that is, until you shed the baby weight and your body comes back to its normal shape. This may take a couple of weeks or more depending on your lifestyle and other factors. So till then, you can just wear your pregnancy clothes because they will provide you with the support you will need and will be very comfortable for your post-partum body which would still be undergoing many changes.

However, even after you’re back to your normal size, you can still work your way around those outfits with some tiny adjustments. But now, what do with all those maternity clothing that you got during pregnancy? I’ve got some real world, real mom solutions for you.

1. Hold on to them

Yes, you read that right. Hold on to those clothes, if you are planning to get pregnant again. If you have one or more children, shopping for maternity all over again is going to be one huge task. Unless, it’s something you are sure, will never use again, holding and reusing is a good idea.

2. Alter them

The most obvious answer to loose fitting clothes. Now that your tummy is just about a fraction of what it was in the last stages of your pregnancy, find a good tailor, who can alter those maternity clothes to fit your current body shape. Include your current requirements as well – front open zipper or a discreet opening to breast feed, fitted sleeves, pockets to hold the wet cloth or tissues.

3. Give it a makeover

If there is one of your pregnancy dresses that you love, all you need to do is add a trendy wide belt to your loose dress around the waist and you’re good to go. The belt will help clinch your slim waist and it will make your outfit look very chic at the same time! In the same way you can add any embellishment to your long tops and kurtis too. A tassel here, a motif there, some strings, or if you can paint in something, it can glam up that dress in a way you never thought it could.

4. Make something new

If there is no way you can wear those clothes, get your creative caps on. The t-shirts that once fitted you so well, can be used as wash clothes, bibs, cloth nappies and wrap cloth. If it’s an old sweater, it can be a blanket for your little one. If you are upto it, cut that shirt or tee to give your baby a new dress. Cut those long sleeves to create cool bottle warmers. Customise it if you want to. Sky’s the limit.

5. Give it away

If your clothes are barely used, you can donate these clothes at your nearest NGO. Just like you, there are other mothers who can use some clothes to feel better. Or give them to friends or relatives who are pregnant now and get rid of that clutter. Give it with the thought that you are never going to get it back.

6. Hello, comfortable sleepwear

If none of the above appeal to you, can you image how comfy and rested you're gonna feel when you slip into those flowy, stretchy tees at night? Nothing like breezy PJs to get you a good night's sleep - and you don't even have to buy new ones.

Hope you enjoyed reading this. Good luck!
